Job Description

The Department of Maritime Affairs Administration at Texas A&M University Galveston invites applications for a full-time tenure-review position on hire with an academic and administrative appointment of 11 months from from September 1, 2023 (with an optional earlier summer start). We are looking for an experienced and visionary Head of Department with demonstrated academic leadership and a business-applicable scholarship with an emphasis on maritime administration. This position will be hired at the rank of Professor or Associate Professor for an outstanding candidate. Appointment as Head of Department is initially for a term of five years with potential for additional terms.

Competitive applicants must be internationally recognized as leaders in their field of academic study; have a vision of the future for the department, as well as national and international challenges and opportunities; and be an effective advocate for students, staff, and faculty in the department. They should help teachers obtain external funding. They must have administrative and budgetary management experience, have a background that lends itself to facilitating effective learning and teaching, be committed to transparent and engaged faculty governance, be collaborative, and be able to manage and resolve conflicts. The department head is responsible for the direction of the department, including the department’s vision, strategic planning, financial resource management, and human resource responsibilities. The head of department is the main responsible for studies, taxation, development and administration of the department. Maritime Business Administration offers unique logistics programs for undergraduate and graduate students, focusing on the maritime part of global supply chains and producing graduates with a strong background in the key areas of accounting, finance, marketing, operations management, law, economics and business analysis. , strategic logistics management and supply chain management that are essential for today’s professionals. These courses lay the foundation for more advanced courses in international trade, inland waterway management, brokerage and chartering, organizational behavior, transport economics, port and terminal management, and other areas related to the maritime industry. The candidate will have a Ph.D. in a field of business administration and a distinctive and active record of research, publication and external funding. Preferred qualifications include administrative and leadership experience with a maritime focus.
