SAN DIEGO – Southwestern College is requiring its employees and students to be vaccinated in order to benefit from in-person teaching and services for the fall semester 2021.
The college made the announcement on Wednesday, saying masks will also be required in all indoor buildings and facilities. Students must have at least one dose of vaccine by the start of class on August 23 and employees must have at least one dose by the return to work date of August 16 and their second scheduled dose.
The college plans to offer vaccination clinics on the Chula Vista campus the first two weeks of the fall semester in partnership with San Ysidro Health. Members of the campus community can get vaccinated in advance by visiting the city’s website or by consulting their health care provider.
Southwestern College is one of the colleges, universities and other institutions across the country requiring vaccines and masks.
The update to the college’s health guidelines comes after management surveyed students and employees and looked at local data, including the increase in COVID-19 cases due to the Delta variant.
“These health and safety measures are essential steps in overcoming the COVID-19 pandemic and returning safely to Southwestern College,” said Dr. Mark Sanchez, Superintendent and President of Southwestern College.
