The corporate world has its own infrastructure, ethics, language and way of doing things. Communication plays a vital role in the business world as it is something that can either seal the deal or break it. Effective communication allows you to get your message, thoughts, and ideas across in the right way to grab attention. In order to provide effective communication, there are seven essential concepts.

These include:

1. Accuracy

Accuracy is about providing the right facts, using the right level of language and conveying the right message to the audience/readers. This is to avoid grammatical errors in both written and verbal communication, as incorrect grammar can totally alter the meaning of the sentence and lead to a negative impression.

2. Clarity

Clarity involves using language such that the decoder can easily grasp the true meaning of the sentence. The encoder should emphasize a particular message at a given time. If there is clarity in the thoughts and ideas, it helps to easily convey the meaning of the sentence.

3. Completeness

If the encoder wants to get the type of response it expects, then the encoder should always provide all the necessary details. The sender should consider the recipient’s state of mind and answer all questions raised by backing up the answers with facts and figures.

4. Brevity

In the corporate world, no one has time for verbal communication. So it is better to be concise in communication and save your time and the time of others. You can achieve conciseness by avoiding repetition of wordy thoughts and expressions. Instead, use short sentences that go straight to the point but complement the communication.

5. Consideration

It is the most important component of effective communication which involves thinking from the recipient’s point of view. The encoder must consider the viewpoint, background, education level, state of mind, desires and issues of the audience when composing a message. You must modify your message to meet the needs of the reader.

6. Concreteness

The concreteness of the message refers to being definitive and clear rather than being general, fuzzy and vague. The encoder must present correct and specific facts in front of the decoder for effective communication.

7. Courtesy

Courtesy is the essential component of any effective communication. The beginning and the end of a communication must be done with courtesy. It refers to valuing the feelings of the recipient as it builds goodwill. The encoder should use polite words and show respect to the decoder for effective communication.
